Quick Answer: Disable “Enhance Pointer Precision” in Mouse settings

Problem: Touchpad was stuttering and lagging when moving around too quickly. There was no intensive applications being used, and plenty of system resources. This was not obviously associated with any programs that were running.

Many people suggested that I reinstall my mouse drivers, one way to do this is to go into Device Manager and delete the touchpad “HID-Compliant Mouse”, then restart my computer. This only works for a few minutes before the stuttering starts again.

This is because of Mouse Acceleration, or “Enhance Pointer Precision” as Microsoft calls it. It changes the DPI depending on how fast you are moving your cursor, and sometimes it causes issues.

By disabling it, the stutters stop. This will not change the way your mouse behaves dramatically, I myself cannot notice any difference between having Mouse Acceleration on or off. Many Gamers actually prefer to have this off, as it increases the mouse’s performance.
